Visual Impairment

A Qualified Teacher of Visual Impairment (QTVI) is a specialist teacher who can support in the use of functional vision and help us as a team to recommend visual strategies to enhance learning opportunities and help develop use of low and high tech communication methods.  They are able to provide direct support and intervention alongside more indirect support in an advisory capacity including training for individuals, teams and schools.

Our QTVI will support young people and adults with visual impairments by collaborating with speech and language therapists and assistive technologists to assess functional vision and overall development.

The service will also provide guidance to parents, carers, and professionals, helping them understand their child’s visual impairment and how to support their development at home, in school, college, and within the community.
